Zachęta, Narodowa Galeria Sztuki, to kluczowa instytucja kultury w Warszawie, której celem jest prezentacja i promocja sztuki współczesnej. Galeria organizuje wystawy zarówno indywidualne, jak i zbiorowe, angażując artystów polskich i zagranicznych oraz wystawy tematyczne.

Historia Zachęty sięga 1860 roku, kiedy powstało Towarzystwo Zachęty Sztuk Pięknych, które zainicjowało pierwszy konkurs na projekt gmachu w 1862 roku. Po wielu perypetiach, w 1894 roku przyznano działkę na rogu ulicy Królewskiej i placu Ewangelickiego, a zwycięski projekt budynku stworzył Stefan Szyller. W rezultacie powstał obiekt w stylu renesansowym, którego oficjalne otwarcie miało miejsce 15 grudnia 1900 roku.

W czasie II wojny światowej Zachęta przeszła dramatyczne chwile, stając się "Haus der Deutschen Kultur" i organizując propagandowe wystawy. Pomimo zniszczeń, budynek ocalał, a po wojnie został poddany remontowi i przekształcony w Centralne Biuro Wystaw Artystycznych.

Od 1994 roku funkcjonuje jako Zachęta Państwowa Galeria Sztuki, a w 2003 roku zyskała status narodowej instytucji kultury. Galeria pozostaje ważnym ośrodkiem sztuki w Warszawie, nieustannie promując nowe kierunki i artystów.
